"In Search of Stability"
Oil on Canvas 48x60
The meaning of this painting came to me one morning at dawn while I was thinking about its progress on my easel. It relates to a woman’s search for stability. The painting consists of many symbols. The sea, the sunrise and the sailboats symbolize the arrival of her time in life to set out on her own to find her way amongst the masses. Being alone symbolizes the solitude she must utilize to recognize her true inner self in order to acknowledge her own opinions and sensibilities. Holding onto the rope symbolizes the urgency and struggle involved in embracing life’s changes. The orchid clouds symbolize nature’s beauty and the bounty that is available to her. The chambered nautilus shells signify the gradual changes she will need to make continually.…..all of her life….letting go of yesterday in order to have full use of her strengths….thus coming to terms with the past, the present and the future. The swan is her guide and stays by her side to remind her to remain sincere, gracious and loving towards those people that the universe sends her way. The baby swans within the nautilus shells on the sail symbolize the new life that will become hers.
